Why Plantar Fasciitis Keeps Coming Back Even After It Feels Better
By Dr. Andrew Kakishita, DC | Pleasant Grove, UT Chiropractor
You finally stopped limping. Then, out of nowhere, it is back.
Feeling Better Is Not the Same as Being Fixed
Plantar fasciitis pain usually calms down before the tissue underneath is actually done healing. Once your pain drops enough that you stop noticing it during normal walking, it is tempting to assume you are in the clear. But fascia tissue heals slowly, and the underlying weakness or degeneration can still be there even once the sharp pain fades.
The Habits That Bring It Back
The exact things that caused it in the first place are often still in play. Unsupportive shoes, tight calves, a sudden jump back into running or long walks, or simply standing on hard floors for hours a day can all reload stress onto fascia that has not fully recovered its strength yet.
Why Rest Alone Is Not a Long Term Fix
Rest calms things down temporarily, but it does not address why the fascia broke down in the first place. If you do not deal with the calf tightness, weak foot muscles, or footwear that contributed to the problem, you are essentially setting the same trap again once you go back to normal activity.
Breaking the Cycle
A few things help prevent the bounce-back:
• Keep up calf and foot stretching even after the pain is gone, not just during a flare-up
• Ease back into activity gradually instead of jumping straight back to your old routine
• Pay attention to footwear, especially if you switch to sandals or flats once you feel better
How We Approach This Differently
At Kinetic Chiropractic, we do not just treat the flare-up, we look at what set it up in the first place. Shockwave therapy helps rebuild the degenerated tissue directly, and red light therapy supports that healing process, but addressing the biomechanics behind it is what actually keeps it from coming back.
If your plantar fasciitis keeps showing back up, let’s break the cycle instead of just treating the next flare. Come see us at Kinetic Chiropractic in Pleasant Grove.
